I was in the best shape of my life when Ben was diagnosed with cancer – Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – at age 3. Life forced me to step back and focus on his treatment.
I missed the gym but felt selfish for even thinking about it when my son was fighting such a huge battle. It was only after we found out he was in remission that I allowed myself to think about returning to “normal” life activities. I started working out again when I could, when we didn’t have clinic visits or side effects. When his immune system is too weak to leave the house, I work out at home.
When I’m at the gym, he is always on my mind. I have watched him go through so many things that kids shouldn’t have to experience and he has been so brave through it all. When I’m working out – he is my reason. If he can be so brave through everything then I can lift this weight. I can run an extra mile. As long as he is here I can get through anything. I feel stronger now than I did before diagnosis.
My Reason Is…..My brave Ben and all kids fighting childhood cancer.
